The outward signs of different cultures that everyone can identify are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to cultural awareness. Culture is a complex concept, and can often lead to distorted views, stereotyping and prejudice – notions that need to be eliminated from any workplace, irrespective of what industry you work in. As an early years practitioner, elimination of these concepts within your childcare setting should be constantly high on your agenda.

Learn how to provide refugee and asylum seeker support using the relevant advice packs available to early years practitioners.
Understand the content of the EYFS 2008 Principles into Practice cards that cover ‘personal, social and emotional development’, and ‘knowledge and understanding of the world’. These are available to be downloaded online via the Department for Education (DfE) website, but should also be available at your workplace.
